Cisco port channel suspended nexus || AQ Learning Center ||

I recommended please follows a Cisco best practice and use LACP with his port-channel deployment. Port-channel to vPC configurations can be complex.

Cisco port channel suspended nexus 

 Main facts for suspended port-channel may be under below.

Ports only go in the suspended mode when not receiving LACP or one end is the half duplex.

1) speed mismatch (auto speed recommended)
2) Duplex issue
3) The connected device may not send it's LACP due to configuration error or may belong LACP support issue (in case don't use active and passive mode). This is the only solution where LACP not supported.
4) Sometimes changing in the LACP parameter may resolve the issue.


I have seen many suspended issues during my network jobs. Not everyone knows about this ports issue. Let's discuss in lil bit detail

To create proper Ether channel standards

To configure proper ether channel rules are very important to follow.

• All ether channel needs to be in the same speed
• All Ether channel needs to be in same duplex setting
• Trunking encapsulation should be same (dot1q/isl)
• Same access VLAN ports (In the case or access ports)
• STP cost should be the same
• No ether channel ports should be in monitor sessions SPAN Ports (recommended)

After following all the standards sh ether channel looks like

Group  Port-channel  Protocol    Ports
------+-------------+-----------+-----------------------------------------------
62     Po62(SU)         -        Gi2/5(P)    Gi2/6(P)

and (P) flag sign means bundled in the channel (all ok)


If ports having the mismatch in encapsulation then show port-channel looks like

Group  Port-channel  Protocol    Ports
------+-------------+-----------+-----------------------------------------------
62     Po62(SU)         -        Gi2/5(P)    Gi2/6(s)

and S stands for any layer 2 issue (encapsulation)
